Follow-up messages for demat leads that don't feel pushy

Polite follow-up messages for each stage of a demat lead, from a half-filled form to Ready to Trade, with timing tips and what never to say.

Most referral income is earned in the follow-up, not in the first message. Customers get busy, forget or get stuck. A polite reminder at the right moment can make the difference, as long as it does not feel like pressure.

Principles of a good follow-up

  • Be helpful: offer help, not reminders of what they "owe".
  • Be brief: two or three lines are enough.
  • Be specific: mention the exact step where they stopped.
  • Respect their decision: make it easy to say no.

Wait one or two days, then:

"Hi! Just checking if you got a chance to look at the account link. If you have any questions about documents or steps, I'm happy to help."

Stage 2: application started but not finished

Wait a day:

"I noticed you started the application. Did you get stuck at any step? Many people get stuck at the Aadhaar OTP or selfie; I can guide you."

Stage 3: application submitted, under review

This needs no pressure; just keep them informed:

"Your application is with the broker now. They usually take a day or two to verify. You'll get an email when it's active."

Stage 4: account active, not yet used

If the campaign needs a first trade or funding:

"Your account is active! If you want help finding the add-funds option or understanding the app, tell me. Invest only when you're ready."

Stage 5: rejected

Be supportive:

"The broker couldn't open the account. The email usually explains why. If it's something like a name mismatch, we can fix it and try again if allowed."

How many follow-ups?

A good rule: no more than two or three follow-ups per stage, spaced a few days apart. If there is no response, stop. People notice and appreciate restraint.

What never to say

  • "Please do it quickly, I need the commission."
  • "You'll definitely make profits."
  • "Just send me your OTP, I'll do it for you."
  • Any message that makes the customer feel guilty.

These messages damage trust and can lead to complaints or account action.

When the customer asks you to "do it for them"

Some customers, especially older or less confident ones, say "you fill it for me". Kindly refuse to enter their details, OTPs or passwords. Instead, offer to sit with them (in person or on a video call) and guide them while they type. This protects them, keeps the application genuine, and protects your account from being flagged. Explain gently: "For your safety, only you should enter your details. I'll tell you exactly what to press."

Use your dashboard to time follow-ups

Your Earn MUFAD dashboard shows each lead's stage. Check it every day or two and follow up only where a stage has not changed for a while. This keeps your effort focused and avoids messaging people who have already completed.

Follow-up in Hindi or the customer's language

Many customers are more comfortable in Hindi or their regional language. Matching their language makes follow-ups feel personal. For example: "Namaste! Account ka application kahan tak pahuncha? Kisi step mein dikkat ho toh bataiye, main help kar dunga." Simple, friendly and clear.

Voice notes vs text

Some people prefer voice notes, especially older customers or those less comfortable with reading. A short, friendly voice note of 20 to 30 seconds can work well. Keep it calm, don't rush, and still avoid any pressure.

Keep notes

Write one line after each conversation: date, stage and what the customer said. Next time, you can follow up naturally: "Last time you mentioned you'd apply after salary day; is now a good time?"

The result

Respectful, well-timed follow-ups convert more leads and keep relationships healthy. Customers often come back later or refer friends because they remember you helped without pushing. Learn more in referral marketing skills.

Frequently asked questions

Should I call or message?

Start with a message. Call only if the customer prefers calls or asked you to call.

What if the customer says they're not interested anymore?

Thank them and stop following up. Leave the door open politely for the future.
